Will & Grace Revival Renewed For Third Season
The Will & Grace revival is going to be with us for a while to come as NBC has renewed the sitcom for a third batch of new episodes. The good news doesn't end there, NBC also extended the second season's run by an additional five episodes, in case you've lost track, the first season of the revival hasn't finished yet so this is an exceedingly early renewal.
NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt broke the news, and he's thrilled that Will & Grace are here to stay.
"As far as I'm concerned, we can't get enough of Will & Grace and 23 more episodes is music to my ears. We're eternally grateful that Debra, Eric, Sean, and Megan feel the same way and wanted to keep this good thing going. I'm overwhelmed by the euphoric response the new show has received from the press and the audience, and my hat is off to the unrivalled writing team of Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, as well as the brilliant directing of Jimmy Burrows, for consistently delivering one of the best shows on television."
Unlike fellow 90s sitcom giant Friends, the road to a reunion for Will & Grace was effortless thanks to a ten-minute special that landed online during the 2016 Presidential Election. The one-off was so well received that NBC wasted no time in snapping up the main cast and crew (including director James Burrows who has directed every episode) for a two-season revival. Some revivals fall short of fan expectations, even more so when it features the original cast. The X-Files, Fuller House, and Gilmore Girls returned after a lengthy gap with varying degrees of success. But Will & Grace seamlessly picked up as if no time had gone by and offered fans a cosy jumper of a nostalgia.
Eric McCormack will be a very busy bee over the next year, his Netflix series Travelers was recently picked up for a third season with production kicking off over the summer in Canada. UK fans can catch up with Will & Grace on Channel 5 Fridays at 10pm.
