There's good news for fans of Will & Grace as NBC has picked up a second season of the revived sitcom for the 2018/2019 schedule. The early renewal will give the series its tenth overall season and will be on the air to celebrate its twentieth anniversary in 2018.

The seeds for the surprise revival of the hit sitcom were sown last September when an unexpected ten-minute Election special was released online. No sooner had the mini-episode clocked up millions of views, rumours quickly followed that NBC was in talks with the primary cast (Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Megan Mullally and
Sean Hayes) to bring the beloved series back.

Unlike fellow 90s sitcom Friends, the cast of Will & Grace jumped at the chance to reprise their roles, and NBC ordered ten brand new episodes. That ten-episode order was swiftly increased to twelve and word has just reached our ears that NBC recently upped that to sixteen. Bringing the series back wasn't without its creative complications given the way season eight ended with a time jump that angered its millions of fans. After a rift between the two chums lasts for years, Will and Grace were reunited when their now grown-up children meet in college.

Fans the world over felt it was a bittersweet way to end the sitcom with the titular characters now estranged, and series co-creator David Kohan agrees. In a recent interview, Kohan announced that the revival would ignore the ending entirely.

"When the decision was made to bring the series back, we were like, well, we left them with kids, right? And if they have children, then it has to be about them being parents, 'cause presumably, it would be a priority in their lives And if it wasn't a priority in their lives, then they're still parents, they're just bad parents, right? We frankly did not want to see them being either good parents or bad parents. We wanted them to be Will and Grace."

Will & Grace returns to NBC this September, there are currently no details on the UK broadcast (the original run was on Channel 4), but we'll let you know as soon as we hear something.
