Trollhunters Will End After Season 3
DreamWorks Animation and Netflix's Trollhunters will return for another season of epic episodes that will bring the first chapter in the Tales of Arcadia trilogy to a close.
Created by Guillermo del Toro, Trollhunters is the story of ordinary teenager Jim (Anton Yelchin) who stumbles upon a magic amulet and must defend the world from the villainous Gunmar and his army of trolls. The fantasy series marks the final completed work of the sorely missed Anton Yelchin, due to the nature of animated projects, Yelchin had recorded a significant amount of his dialogue for season three before his tragic death in 2016. To complete the series, Emile Hirsch (Into The Wild, Lone Survivor) will take over voicing Jim for the final season and according to Deadline;
"Del Toro and his creative team found a unique way to incorporate a voice transition organic to the story and create a path for Hirsch, a dear friend of Yelchin’s, to carry on his legacy and role. Yelchin’s performance has been left intact where possible, and some portions have been merged with Hirsch’s performance to complete season three."
While I fully accept that I'm not the target audience for Trollhunters, I'm automatically onboard with just about anything from Guillermo del Toro's mind. Add to that a sterling voice cast of Yelchin, Kelsey Grammer, Ron Perlman, and Mark Hamill, and Trollhunters was irresistible. In fact, I would go as far to say that Trollhunters is better than DreamWorks Animation's last few theatrically released movies.
Last year, del Toro revealed that Trollhunters was the first in a trilogy of TV shows under the banner of Tales of Arcadia. The second series, 3 Below, is due to launch on Netflix later this year with the third and final instalment, Wizards, due early 2019.
