Technology it rules our lives from our phones in our hands to the mobile devices we choose to write and share media through right down to the desktop gaming PC's we use to get perfect 4k gaming.

We've recently upgraded our tech and we've spent a year enjoying some gaming fun so why don't we share with you the tech that has changed our lives for the better.

MICROSOFT SURFACE PRO 4

I wanted a tablet but I didn't want an iPad, it's that simple. However buying a windows tablet is no easy feat as they all now seem to be this weird hybrid laptop replacement. It's expensive and while we were on the edge when it came to ordering and had to order the lowest i5 version instead of the i7 due to costs and deals available at the time, we're totally in love!

The Surface Pro 4 with its easy to use interface and snap on keyboard is the perfect tool for blogging on the go. Whilst this will not do my video editing swiftly due to it being the i5 with 4GB of RAM (there is another model with 8GB that would do this) it will do everything else i need from writing for Buz down to reading comics on a truly beautiful screen and watching films on the commute.

The Surface Pro is a light weight solution to those looking to be productive both personally and professionally on the move and it is almost certainly a laptop replacement however you can get better specs from laptops on the market for a much cheaper price so bear that in mind.

More info here - There are versions of the Surface Pro 4 to suit both entry level and high performance users. Check it out but the price will scare some. (Maybe when Surface Pro 5/6 comes around we'll save the pennies for the higher specced versions.)

LENOVO YOGA BOOK

Here we go again, Lenovo being super creative and innovative. It makes us sick but it looks pretty and it's effective. The one issue I have with Surface Pro is writing on the screen with the pen as there's no real friction. Lenovo have fixed this with a tablet made for artists, creatives and the office.

You can write on real paper and have it appear on the screen, you can do everything you can on your laptop and then some.  The beauty of the YOGA BOOK is the choice between Windows and Android, select your OS and run with it. With all these things check out the tech specs as every users has different needs.

With a backlit keyboard, powered by intel Atom and a beautiful 10.1" display this could be your portable solution for 2017.

THE DREAM MACHINES

For years we've been part of the Lenovo Family our YOGA 2 was our first hybrid tablet/laptop but for us it's been a god send. We don't really use the tablet feature until we're in presentations but it often takes people by surprise when you suddenly rotate the screen to turn the laptop into a tablet for ease of use.

Yoga has ruined us because while I still have my i7 Alienware Gaming Laptop which is now severely out of date the YOGA gave us touch screen ease of use and despite being an i5 run device gave us the power to create and engage in day to day use. From video editing down to the daily grind of business.

For us if we could own one laptop in 2017 it would be one of these beauties from Lenovo and both are supremely different in specs and performance.

YOGA 900

More in line with what we currently use day to day, the Yoga has always been innovative and a powerfully competent machine. Using the power of the intel i5 and select innards to make sure performance and portability were key without burning your arm or a hole through your desk.

With 3 years of using the YOGA 2, the 900 series is the most powerful of the bunch and seems like the natural progression. Lenovo build their laptop/tablet hybrids to last and when you feel the need for an upgrade the place you look is the company whose hardware has lasted and continued to support your needs from start to finish.

Key specs:

  • Intel Core i5-6260U Processor( 1.80GHz 1866MHz 4MB)
  • 13.3" QHD+ LED Glossy Multi-touch 3200x1800
  • Intel Iris Graphics 540
  • 8.0GB LPDDR3-1600 LPDDR3 1600 MHz
  • 256GB SSD PCIe

It's a thing of beauty and it will keep you secure for a number of years and you'll never get bored of the design.

Ideapad Y700

POWER POWER POWER POWER! This year has been tough on our hardware, a leaky ceiling obliterated my desktop PC which I used for more intensive taks such as video editing, encoding and of course playing Guild Wars 2 and other great games available on PC.

That dream has now been shattered and one landlords evilness and refusal to pay up leaves me without a machine that  was my lifeline to the gaming world at large. However in 2017 we may be looking to the ideapad Y700 for our desktop replacement dreams. Most look to the desktop PC market for a performance or replacement but here and now? It's time to go semi-portable. I know if I need an extra kick to my gaming and editing ways this is the future.

Key Specs:

  • Intel Core i7-6700HQ Processor( 2.60GHz 2133MHz 6MB)
  • Up to 16 GB DDR4
  • Up to 1 TB HDD / Up to 512 GB SSD / Up to 1 TB + 8 GB SSHD
  • Optional External USB 2.0 DVD/BD Tray-In
  • 2 x USB 3.0, 1 x USB 2.0 + Always-on, DC-in, 2-in-1 Audio Combo Jack, 1 x HDMI, 1 x 4-in-1 Media Card Reader (SD, SDHC, SDXC, MMC)

While deciding on new hardware is never easy in 2017 we're hoping to bring you news and of course reviews on some of the hardware you should be looking at in 2017. First up will be our Surface Pro 4 review and it's going to be a doozy!
