Speaking at the Rakuten TV Empire Awards, Steven Spielberg used his acceptance speech for his award to confirm that Indiana Jones 5 will start production in the UK April 2019.

“It’s always worth the trip when I get to work with this deep bench of talent coming out of the UK. The actors, and the crew, the chippies, the sparks, the drivers — everybody who has helped me make my movies here, and will continue helping me make my movies here when I come back in April 2019 to make the fifth Indiana Jones movie right here.”

Spielberg was toying with the idea of directing a West Side Story remake before Indiana Jones, but earlier this year he confirmed that Indy would be his next project. All we know so far is that Harrison Ford will be back to complete his victory lap of reprising his iconic characters, and the script will be written by David Koepp. Yep, the very same David Koepp that wrote Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Koepp is a frequent collaborator of Spielberg's having written Jurassic Park, The Lost World, and War of the Worlds. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I want to love it, but as soon as Shia LaBeouf starts swinging through the jungle with the monkeys, I just see red. I know I'm not alone on that one.

Despite its many flaws, The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull managed more than $786 million worldwide back in 2008. There was talk a few years ago that Chris Pratt could replace Shia LaBeouf as Indy's son, but those rumours were quickly shot down by Disney. Now that we know when Indiana Jones 5 is filming, we should expect all sorts of fresh rumours to start doing the rounds. One thing's for sure, Disney will be looking at how it can expand the Indiana Jones franchise beyond one more movie with Harrison Ford

Meanwhile, Spielberg's Oscar-nominated The Post can still be seen in selected cinemas, but we're mere days away from the release of another must-see Spielberg movie. Based on the bestselling book by  Ernest Cline, Ready Player One finally makes it to the big screen on March 29. The nostalgia-laced sci-fi flick looks about as Spielbergian as a movie is possible to be, and will be best enjoyed on the biggest IMAX screen you can find.
