Rick & Morty Season 4 Has Started Production
Rick & Morty star and co-creator Justin Roiland has confirmed that the cult favourite has started production on its highly anticipated fourth season. Speaking to Polygon, Roiland revealed that the writer's room had been assembled and things are moving along nicely.
“It’s exciting; it’s a little surreal. Even just being in the writer's room for half the day every day this week, the ideas are ... it’s going to be great.”
After an intense negotiation period that lasted many months, Adult Swim rewarded fans for their patience and ordered a massive seventy episode pick up for Rick & Morty. Dan Harmon and Roiland have made no secret about the lengthy creative process it takes to write, and animate the show, which has given fans cause for concern that more long gaps between seasons will be on the cards. However, the colossal renewal has given the co-creators the "job security" they need to ensure that they can make the show quicker without skimping on quality.
“We‘re super excited that, for the first time ever, we’re locked in, we know what the future is, we have job security. Harmon is in great spirits, we have a great writer’s room.
We want the episodes to stay good, but we do also want to try to turn them around a little quicker now that we have this big order, I think it gives us the ability to be faster. We're not going to do these long breaks, these chasms in between seasons anymore. We're going to schedule vacation time and just keep the machine going. It's going to be really cool."
No more eighteen month waits in between seasons; I'll drink to that! Currently, there is no fixed date for when Rick & Morty will return, but early 2019 seems like a reasonably safe bet. That said, Harmon and Roiland have frequently surprised fans with short films, music videos, and the unexpected release of the first episode from season three on April Fool's Day last year. So, anything is possible.
