Netflix Picks Up Travelers For Third Season
Netflix has become the exclusive home of hit sci-fi series Travelers and has picked the show up for a third season. Netflix partnered with Canadian TV channel Showcase to distribute the first two seasons after they were broadcast in Canda. Going forward, Netflix will be showing new episodes of the Eric McCormack led series first and will be handling the global distribution.
Created by Brad Wright (Stargate SG-1), Travelers centres on a group of special agents from the future who transport their consciousnesses back in time into the body of a person at the point of their death. Their mission, to prevent the collapse of civilisation and save humanity from a post-apocalyptic future. Eric McCormack announced the renewal and revealed he'll be directing the first episode of the forthcoming third season.
“Before I was Will Truman again, I was a Traveler. And I am so excited to be able to tell our fans, worldwide, that Brad Wright’s subtle and stunning sci-fi drama is back for a third season. I am so proud of this show, particularly that it’s all-Canadian. From our devoted Vancouver crew, to an uber-talented young cast who hail from Alberta, BC, Manitoba and Ontario, to my producing partners and our Toronto roots, Travelers is a series as Canadian in its creation, as it is global in scope. I am counting the days ‘til I return, not just as Special Agent Grant MacLaren, and as a producer, but as the director of the 3rd season premiere. Travelers will continue to be unwavering in its dedication to Canadian talent, and in its drive to be one of the strongest, most binged shows on Netflix.”
McCormack has been balancing leading roles in two hit shows since ABC revived Will & Grace. The new episodes of the iconic sitcom were so well received that ABC increased their order to 16 episodes, and commissioned a tenth season for the 2018/2019 schedule. Travelers will return to Netflix later this year.
