Netflix Confirms When Stranger Things 3 Will Arrive
If you were hoping to return to Hawkins, Indiana in the 80s this year, then I have some bad news for you. The third season of Netflix's wildly popular Stranger Things won't be returning until summer 2019. Netflix's programming executive Cindy Holland spoke during the Television Critics Association’s press tour about many of their upcoming originals and confirmed that Stranger Things 3 would debut mid-2019.
While no fixed date was given, Holland defended the decision to provide showrunners The Duffer Brothers and producer Shawn Levy the time they need to make the best possible show.
“It’s a handcrafted show. The Duffer Brothers and Shawn Levy, they understand the stakes are high. They want to deliver something bigger and better than last year. I think it’s going to be a fantastic season. It will be worth the wait.”
News of the delay shouldn't come as a complete shock as a recent retro teaser announcing the opening of Starcourt mall in Hawkins revealed the launch date of summer 1985. Many fans took this to mean that season three would be landing summer 2019, and it turns out they were 100% correct.
Long gaps between new episodes are nothing new for Strangers thins; there was a fifteen-month wait between the first and second season. The first run launched July 2016 with the second arriving just in time for Halloween 2017. I'll be blunt; I'm disappointed that we won't be seeing Egg and the gang this year, but I would rather wait for something special than they rushed to meet an unrealistic deadline. Long gaps between seasons haven't done Game of Thrones any harm; we're still almost a year away from the final season hitting HBO, and only continues to gather new fans. More on Stranger Things season three as it comes in.
