Marvel's New Warriors Finds Its Squirrel Girl
After three months of searching, Freeform and ABC has found New Warriors' Squirrel Girl with This Is Us star Milana Vayntrub. Baby Daddy's Derek Theler has bagged himself the male lead with the role of Mister Immortal, the eventual founder (and leader) of the Great Lakes Avengers.
The casting announcements don't end there, Jeremy Tardy (Dear White People) will play Night Thrasher, Matthew Moy (2 Broke Girls) is Microbe, Kate Comer (The Comeback) will be Debrii, and Calum Worthy (Austin & Ally) has been cast as Speedball.
Speaking about the cast additions, Showrunner Kevin Biegel had this to say;
"I am thrilled beyond belief to be working with this incredible group of actors. They are funny, sincere, eager, charming and perfectly embody these characters. It'll be a blast and an honor to create this show with each of them."
Freeform's Elizabeth Boykewich added;
"At Freeform, we are committed to finding distinct and entertaining characters that our audience can enjoy and relate to. We are excited to be working with Marvel Television to bring these fiercely average superheroes to life and watch them take on the world."
New Warriors was given a straight to series order earlier this year and its ten-episode first season is set to launch sometime in 2018. Freeform is also producing another Marvel-based series aimed at younger audiences with Cloak and Dagger. Showrunner Joe Pokask (Daredevil) has been clear that there are no current plans to have the two shows crossover, but it's something that can't be ruled out entirely.
The only question now is, will it be Monkey Joe or Tippy-Toe as Squirrel Girl's trusty pet Squirrel?
