Just a few weeks ago, a third season pick up seemed like a no-brainer following a sturdy performance in the ratings. However, reports emerged that Crawford had been disciplined by the network for multiple outbursts of bad behavior put the show in jeopardy of cancellation. According to Deadline, "complaints of emotional abuse and creating a hostile environment" were made by several members of the cast and crew. Crawford addressed the complaints in a lengthy Tweet, but Fox and Warner Bros TV were already on the hunt for a replacement.

Here's what Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn had to say about Stifler from American Pie joining Lethal Weapon

“Seann is a fantastic addition to this already amazing cast. Lethal Weapon is packed with action, drama and pure fun and we can’t wait to see Damon and Seann together on screen. Matt Miller (showrunner), his incredible team and everyone at Warner Bros. have been tremendous partners, and we’re thrilled to bring this show back for another season.”

Before you get angry at the idea of Seann William Scott starring as Martin Riggs, Scott will be playing an entirely new character. As regular readers might know, I'm not always the most prominent advocate of TV shows based on movies. Naturally, there are exceptions (Fargo, Hannibal, Bates Motel, Westworld), but I wasn't exactly that jazzed about Lethal Weapon. I wasn't that jazzed about Lethal Weapon 3 or 4, so the prospect of a procedural reboot wasn't doing much for me. Imagine my surprise when I begrudgingly watched the first episode and was modestly entertained. It's no masterpiece, but the chemistry between Crawford and Damon Wayans is infectious. Sorry, was.

Even though ITV has yet to broadcast the season two finale, the internet is full of spoilers, and if you wish to remain spoiler free, this is your last chance to stop reading. According to the reviews, Riggs was shot in the chest during the closing moments of the episode leaving his fate uncertain. As Fox aren't recasting the character, does this mean that Clayne Crawford's bad behavior has killed Martin Riggs? We'll have to wait and see what happens when Lethal Weapon returns later this year.
