Believe it or not, the summer blockbuster season is almost here and there’s nothing like a big Memorial Day release to officially kick it off.

This year’s commencing blockbuster is the long awaited sequel to the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Dead Men Tell No Tales, and if you can’t wait until Memorial Day to jump back into 18th Century Pirate lore with a bit of Disney magic, you’ll be happy to know that LEGO’s film tie-in sets will be available on April 1st.

If you are a fan of LEGO or the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Christmas is coming earlier this year because these new sets are remarkable. One of the best things about the Pirates of the Caribbean series other than the iconic characters are the films’ magnificent ships and this Spring’s LEGO sets features one of the most creative ship designs I’ve seen.

That ship of course is the Silent Mary and it’s unlike any ever seen before. In the upcoming film the Silent Mary is a ghost ship captained by Jack Sparrow’s old enemy and Pirate hunter Captain Armando Salazar (played by Javier Bardem). What makes the Silent Mary different from other ships is that it’s a lifelike leviathan with skeleton like hull that can that literally swallow its prey.  In the LEGO replica, there are over 2,200 pieces that feature a hinged bow opening, skeleton hull, and collapsible mast just like in the film.

The ship is a striking site to behold and is different from many of LEGO’s other long lines of ships because this one has tattered sails and menacing cannons that really make it stand out from it’s other tall ships. The set also includes a display stand, rowboat, and eight mini figures of the film’s cast all with accessories that bring them to life.

Full disclosure, I’m one of those 30 year old LEGO nerds that always is impressed with their sets, but I think anyone that appreciates the rewarding experience of building something with your own hands will find value in this even at it’s price of $199.99- which I think is reasonable when compared to what LEGO’s other ship sets costs.

If the Silent Mary set is a bit outside your price range, LEGO is always releasing $9.99 BrickHeadz sets for the film’s two Captains. At that price, these are fun sets you can set next on your desk to add some life to your office.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Stories film trailer was well received when it played during the Superbowl but if you can’t wait until Memorial Day to see the film, all sets will be available on LEGO’s online store on April 1st.
