In a jam-packed Facebook update, filmmaker Kevin Smith has revealed that he's planning to make a sequel to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back that will tackle Hollywood's current addiction to reboots.

"And so all last month, I had the time of my life laughing while writing “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” – a fun flick in which the Jersey boys have to go back to Hollywood to stop a brand new reboot of the old “Bluntman & Chronic Movie” they hated so much. It’s a tongue-in-cheek, silly-ass satire that pokes fun at the movie business’s recent re-do obsession, featuring an all-star cast of cameos and familiar faces! And I already met with the good folks at Miramax and they’re into it, so I’m hoping we’ll be shooting in the summer!

Smith also confirmed that he's pushing on with Jay & Silent Bob as his long-gestating Clerks 3 is no longer happening and his Mallrats TV series has yet to find a home.

"Sadly, Clerks III can't happen (one of our four leads opted out of the flick). So I worked on a #Mallrats movie instead... which also didn't happen because it turned into a #Mallrats series. I've pitched said sequel series to 6 different networks only to find no takers thus far. Mind you, I'm not complaining: nobody gets to make EVERYTHING they wanna make in this business (do they?)"

Kevin Smith has been planning to revisit lovable Clerks Dante Hicks and Randal Graves for quite some time and production was due to start Spring 2015. However, Smith decided to delay Clerks 3 as he wanted to make Mallrats 2 first, but what began as a feature film evolved into a ten-episode series that would still serve as a sequel to the original 1995 cult comedy.

Over the last few years, we've seen a different side of Smith's filmmaking skills with shock horror Tusk, the deeply underrated Red State and last year's bizarre comedy Yoga Hosiers. I've followed Smith's career from indie breakout to podcasting king, and there's a part of me that's sad that we might not see Clerks 3 or Mallrats 2, but the silver lining of more Jay & Silent Bob is a suitable consolation prize.
