Following the success of last year's short Love Actually sequel in aid of Comic Relief last, Richard Curtis is dusting another of his classic creations for a good cause. Hugh Grant, Andie MacDowell, Kristin Scott Thomas, John Hannah and Rowan Atkinson are all reuniting for a special Four Weddings and a Funeral Comic Relief sequel.

Earlier this year, Hugh Grant hinted that a sequel to Four Weddings could be in the works. While it might not be the full-blown feature film follow-up fans have been hoping for, it makes sense for Curtis to revisit his beloved romantic comedies under the Comic Relief banner.

Twenty-five years after the original romantic comedy became a global box office phenomenon making a whopping $245 million, the new short will catch up with the majority of the main cast to find out if Charles and Carrie are still together. Speaking about the forthcoming special, Richard Curtis has this to say;

"We're all definitely older – I suspect no wiser, it's been really enjoyable working out what's happened to all the characters – and now they get back together for the 5th wedding. Where, as usual, not everything will go as planned."

It's not just the cast that's returning, original director Mike Newell is helming the special that will, of course, be penned by Four Weddings creator and Comic Relief Founder, Richard Curtis. There's no official title yet, but the special will be broadcast as part of Comic Relief on March 15, 2019.  Notting Hill will be 20 years old next year, so don't be completely shocked if a Comic Relief sequel is announced for 2021.

The charity one-off isn't the only new Four Weddings on the horizon, a new anthology TV series from Mindy Kaling and Matt Warburton is coming to Hulu. The series recently added Nathalie Emmanuel, Nikesh Patel, Rebecca Rittenhouse and John Reynolds with Andie MacDowell in a brand new role. Richard Curtis will serve as an executive producer with the series set to launch on Hulu sometime next year.
