Fans of Brooklyn Nine-Nine have been on a rollercoaster of emotions this year with the much-loved sitcom being axed, then revived all in the space of 24 hours. The recent announcement that NBC had upped the episode order from 13 to 18 brought a smile to fans' faces, but there's some bad news. Chelsea Peretti has revealed she is leaving the show during its forthcoming sixth season. Gina Linetti is leaving the 99th precinct.

"B99 fans. Hiiiiiiiiiiii. Chelsea Peretti, here. I won't be doing a full season of Brooklyn Nine Nine in Season 6. But that doesn’t mean I won’t ever be back, winky face emoji, heart emoji. I want to thank you for the hours you spent watching Gina be Gina: confident, idiotic-but-smart, pithy, and infused with rhythm and cell-phone radiation. It is hard for me to know exactly what to say."

Chelsea Peretti was written out of almost half of season five as she was on maternity leave, and those episodes didn't suffer thanks to the strong ensemble cast. That said, we knew she was coming back last season, this time her departure might be for good. Series co-creator Dan Goor issued a statement where he hinted at an exit storyline that will meet Gina fans' approval.

"From the moment Mike Schur and I decided to create this show, we wanted Chelsea Peretti to be a part of it, and she always will be. She has brought so much to her amazing, hilarious, unique portrayal of Gina Linetti, which is not surprising since she is one of the funniest people in history. We have tried really hard to create a storyline for her departure that lives up to a character who can only be described as “The human embodiment of the 100 emoji.” While it’s sad to see a member of the family leave, we are so proud of Chelsea and excited for what she does next. Also, I know for a fact this isn’t the last we’ll see of Gina Linetti. I mean, she got run over by a frickin’ bus, and she only missed like a week of work.”

It remains unclear how many of the eighteen new episodes Peretti will appear in, as long as she doesn't to a J.D from Scrubs, or Troy from Community and leave four episodes in, I'll be happy. Well, I say happy, Gina is leaving, and that makes me sad. I'll never dance again sad.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns early 2019.
