After reaching a deal with controversial star and co-creator Roseanne Barr, ABC is moving forward with a spin-off from Roseanne that will have no involvement from Barr. Following her widely publicised racist tweet, ABC wasted no time in canceling the second run of the revived sitcom. Considering Roseanne was ABC's most-watched show, the network was keen on exploring options to continue the series without Roseanne.

Spearheaded by producer and co-star Sara Gilbert, according to Deadline the tentatively titled The Conners will “demonstrate that families can always find common ground through conversation, laughter, and love. The spinoff will continue to portray contemporary issues that are as relevant today as they were 30 years ago.”

While it remains unclear how Roseanne will be written out of the show, ABC has teased that “a sudden turn of events" will change the lives of The Conners in ways they never imagined. So, I'm guessing she's either killed off or winds up in prison. It might be a bitter pill to swallow that Barr has received a hefty payoff, but on the plus side, she'll have no creative or financial involvement in The Conners.

Co-stars John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman released a joint statement that thanks fans for their ongoing support;

“We have received a tremendous amount of support from fans of our show, and it’s clear that these characters not only have a place in our hearts but in the hearts and homes of our audience. We all came back last season because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We are so happy to have the opportunity to return with the cast and crew to continue to share those stories through love and laughter.”

The Conners will begin its ten-episode run on ABC later this year.
